SUBIC, ZAMBALES – the National Coast Watch Council, through its Secretariat, joined the inaugural Subic Bay Around Verde Island Passage Race (SBAVIPR) held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone on February 23 – March 02, 2018. The SBAVIPR was hosted by the Subic Sailing Club which is part of the well-renowned Asian Yachting Gran Prix Circuit. The event aimed to spread love of boating to the Filipinos and breed new generation of Filipino Sailors.

The week-long event was attended by sailing enthusiasts and sailors coming from various countries and included sailing competitions as well as lecture sessions among participants to strive towards promoting Subic as well as the Philippines as the premier yachting destination in Asia.

Initially, the race was supposed to revel the annual Subic Bay to Boracay Race. However, in support to the alarming environmental concerns in Boracay Island, as raised by the President, the event is replaced this year by the SBAVIPR. This event is to be followed by the annual Commodores’ Cup Regatta to be held on April 3-7, 2018.

Aside from sailing competitions, the Commodores’ Cup Regatta will include fora and talks on various topics involving our maritime heritage and ocean conservation and protection, among others. These sessions aim to provide maritime information and generate interest for the audience to explore and engage in issues and concerns of the maritime community.
