Zamboanga City — The National Coast Watch Council, through its Secretariat, participated in the first regular meeting of the Philippine Committee (PhilCom) against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing on 22 March 2019, Friday, at the Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City to discuss matters relevant to fisheries management.

The meeting was attended by the forty (40) PhilCom members coming from various government agencies and other sectors. Undersecretary Eduardo B. Gongona, the National Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), presided the meeting in behalf of Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol of the Department of Agriculture. After the discussions on relevant fisheries matters, it concluded with the date of the second regular meeting that will be held within Metro Manila on 5 June 2019, which is also the World Environment Day and International Day for the Fight against IUU Fishing.
